I saw an inspirational sign today that really made me stop and think. "Change your focus. Change your future."
Although I do believe that each of us has some basic sort of a "master plan" set in place for our lives (I don't think I could have ever been happy being anything other than a writer), I also believe that it is within our power to change our future. I have had a lot of slings and arrows tossed at me during this last year. Another bout with cancer, dealt with and now nothing more than a bad memory, the loss of my dad and the consequent issues with dealing with grief, and the possibility that I'll soon be moving away from the only home I've ever known. I have used all the "pesky" occurances as a crutch, an excuse for why I wasn't writing, wasn't pushing with myriad query letters and making someone out there sit up and take notice of my writing the way I believe it deserves to be noticed.
So, although I don't make "New Year's Resolutions" because I tend to do well for a week or so and then slide back into my old ways, I do resolve to focus more on what I want out of life, so I can change my future to be what I want it to be.
One of my novels is with an agent at the moment, and another agent has asked for the first chapters of my Civil War novel. Life is good. And my future is ever so bright. At least a 60 watter. :)
